Lempäälä Health Spa was established in 1926 by Augusta Uoti (1862 - 1936), the wife of the local Vicar.
The Vicar, Juho Uoti (1862 - 1920), B.A., developed a balneotherapeutic method adapted to Nordic conditions largely based on the work of the famous Central-European balneotherapists Kneipp, Priessnitz, Schroth and Kuhne. The method has been used successfully at the Lempäälä Health Spa by over three generations over the last 80 years.
Dr. Kauko Uoti (1989-1979) further developed the method medically and naturopathically. Since 1981, his daughter Kirsti Uoti, MD, specialist in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, has been in charge of the Health Spa.
Treatments are manual and involve hot and cold water in different ways: as vapour, soaking and pouring, wrappings and compresses. Wrappings and compresses are made of linen or wool. One therapy session from head to toe may consist of up to 11 different components. Treatments have a positive effect on circulation, metabolism and the nervous system.
The Health Spa is located by Lake Kirkkojärvi in central Lempäälä. Dining rooms in the Art Nouveau main building are available for meetings as well. The spa building has accommodation for 40 people in rooms for 1 - 5 people. The two large steam baths at the spa are the only ones of their kind in Finland.
